We have said it before and we will say it again, if you haven’t tried a river cruise, you are missing out.  There is a reason why River Cruises are one of the fastest growing segments of the travel industry.  The other?  Skip-Gen travel (Grand parents traveling with Grand children without the parents).  But today we are going to talk more about River Cruises and why you should consider a river cruise.

If you like traveling in smaller more intimate accommodations, then a river cruise is for you.  Unlike the ocean-faring cruise lines where bigger is better, the same is not true of River Cruises.  Most river cruise ships carry fewer than 200 passengers.  True, there may not be water slides and rock walls, but they do have a place in the market.  Those best suited to river cruises are those who want to delve a little deeper into the country and have more experiential travel.  If you just want to hit the highlights of a major city, then river cruising is not for you.  But if you enjoy learning about the history, the beauty, and the heart of a country, then a river cruise is for you.

Most excursions on a river cruise are included in the price of your cruise.  They do have some special excursions that cost extra but the included tours are quite nice and enjoyable.  Since the ship usually docks in the heart of the old towns, you have the best sights right there for the taking.  All tours are guided by local guides that bring the experience to life.  Even on days when you don’t have a city to visit, and they are few and far between, the scenery is stunning.  Some of the best sights are there along the river.  Can you imagine sailing down a river and seeing castles atop the hills and not just one, but multiple castles?  Depending upon the river cruise you choose, there are splendors to behold around every bend of the river.

The most popular rivers for first timers are the Rhine River and the Danube River.  These two rivers hold wonders and sights to marvel at all day long.  But they are not the only rivers to cruise.  Many of Europe's rivers are now enjoyed by river cruisers.  Want to see the real Russia and not just the cities?  Check out the river cruises in Russia.  Want to visit Normandy?  Check out a river cruise.  How about the Nile?  Yes, there is river cruise there as well.  Dream of seeing the Amazon and Machu Picchu?  You guessed it, there is a river cruise that combines those as well.  And the list goes on.  The river may not run through it but they can get you there!
