You would think that after exiting the Rhine River Gorge where every turn seemed to offer a new adventure and another castle, that everything else would be a letdown. Not true. The fun village of Rudesheim has a wonderful old town with lots of winding streets and fun shops.
I will be perfectly honest, I was slightly disappointed in my visit to Cologne when I first arrived, but not for the reasons you might think. Cologne is a beautiful city with so much to offer, I was just looking for the wrong things when I arrived.
Situated on the beautiful Neckar River, Heidelberg provides a multitude of joys to experience. It is a university town and has so much to offer. Between the old town, the castle, the bridge, and the university there is much to see and do in Heidelberg.
Situated on an island in the middle of the Ills river, this stunningly beautiful old town has it all. The fortifications from earlier days can still be seen there today. The amazing thing about this part of Europe is how many times it changed hands between Germany and France. Fortunately for us, each country left its mark on this beautiful old town. You can clearly see the influences of both cultures while you roam around its streets and alleyways.
Como and its namesake lake are truly remarkable and a delight to behold. We traveled to this region during the early autumn and found it stunning. We stayed at a delightful boutique hotel that was only a couple of blocks from the lake and was just steps away from the magical old town section.
