Yarmouth, Nova Scotia - Agency Expedition Cruise with Hurtigruten - Photos

If you want to feel very important, go on a expedition cruise to Yarmouth. It seems the entire town knew we were coming and the Mayor of Yarmouth, a Councilman, and a Mayor from a near by town were at the docks waiting to greet us. The town opened some of its shops early for us and everywhere we went we were greeted with warm smiles and welcomes. If you do get a chance to go to Yarmouth be sure to stop in at the county museum. They have a very nice museum that tell the story of the area with some wild and wacky exhibits. You have to make sure you go downstairs to see the whole thing. It was Lobster Season while we were there and they had their fishing fleet out in force. This was such a beautiful, friendly stop along our way on our expedition cruise with Hurtigruten.

Prince Edward Island, Canada with Photos

PEI, as it is affectionately called by its inhabitants, is probably most well known for the books about "Anne of Green Gables". I went to the island expecting there to be not much else that was note worthy. Boy was I wrong! Sailing into Charlottetown on our Hurtigruten expedition cruise was a beautiful site. The city is nestled in the bay and gives a very grand first impression. Though it doesn't have the skyline of New York, it has all the charm you could ever want in a seaside village. Our day of exploration started here in Charlottetown.

Les-Iles-de-la-Madeleine (Madeleine Islands) Pictures

This set of islands are almost sand bars. This geological quirk makes them rugged and stunningly beautiful. Again this is a French speaking location but the inhabitants were extremely nice and welcoming. This fishing community also has some of the best cheese around! One of the best ways to see this area is on a bike. They do bicycle tours or you could rent a moped. Either way, you need to climb to the top of the knoll that is right by the harbor. From there you can get some pretty spectacular views.

Havre-Saint-Pierre, Quebec, Canada Our Experience with Pictures

This beautiful and remote town is surrounded by a an archipelago of islands that have some of the most interesting limestone formations. Worn down by centuries of wind and water these rock formations are stunning and hold some incredible fossils within them. I was unable to get a picture that truly shows their uniqueness and I know you can find better than this one, but this will give you a general idea of the landscape

Exploring from New York

Departing out of New York is quite spectacular. We have taken the Staten Island Ferry before, but somehow, setting of on an adventure from New York has a different feel. The skyline, which seems to be constantly changing is stunning, and sailing past some of the historical sites, like Ellis Island, can be breathtaking. One of the most awe inspiring moments was cruising past the Statue Of Liberty. It was a cold and rainy day when we departed but it didn't dampen the enjoyment of the moment. There is just something magical about setting off on an adventure from the city that never sleeps. The possibilities seem endless and the world seems to be laying open at your feet.
