Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada

If you want to feel very important, go on a expedition cruise to Yarmouth.  It seems the entire town knew we were coming and the Mayor of Yarmouth, a Councilman, and a Mayor from a near by town were at the docks waiting to greet us.  The town opened some of its shops early for us and everywhere we went we were greeted with warm smiles and welcomes.  If you do get a chance to go to Yarmouth be sure to stop in at the county museum.  They have a very nice museum that tell the story of the area with some wild and wacky exhibits.  You have to make sure you go downstairs to see the whole thing.  It was Lobster Season while we were there and they had their fishing fleet out in force.  This was such a beautiful, friendly stop along our way on our expedition cruise with Hurtigruten.

Lighthouse

I fell in love with this old lighthouse.  It just seemed to speak of history and storms and guiding lights.  I love that you can see some lobster ships returning to port in the background.  There is a second lighthouse nearby but it didn't have the same romantic, lost at sea, feel to it.  Loved this lighthouse and our time here in Yarmouth.

Fuller Brush House

Located right next door to the County Museum, is the Fuller Brush House.  The second wife of Mr. Alfred Fuller, the founder of the Fuller Brush Company, came from Yarmouth.  When her parents passed away the Fullers purchased the house and it served as their summer home.  Once Mr. Fuller passed away she moved back home to Yarmouth for good.  Inside the house you will see most of the furnishings that were left to the city by Mrs. Fuller.  If you have never heard of the Fuller Brush Company, you really need to get out more.

Lobster Season in Yarmouth

It was fun to sit on deck after touring Yarmouth and watch the Lobster Boats returning from setting their traps.  I think they were as interested in us as we were in them.  Such a warm and welcoming community.  Yarmouth was a joy to discover.
