Working with a Travel Agent
Published Tuesday, October 11th 2016 - Updated Thursday, January 12th 2017It’s surprising how many people do not know how to work with a travel agent. I don’t know why it is such a mystery, but it seems to be a pretty big one. So here are some simple tips for working with a travel agent.
If you have already done some research and have found a travel deal that is of interest, be sure to bring all the details to your travel agent. They can help you evaluate the merits of the deal and look for options that may enhance your vacation. They can help to explain the details of the deal and what may or may not be included.
Always share budget concerns with your travel agent. It’s a delicate matter but the more information you share with your travel agent the better they can help you obtain your goal. Travel agents have relationships with travel vendors with a wide variety of price points. They can find ways to meet your vacation wants and stay budget friendly.
Be realistic. Travel agents work hard and want to help you achieve your vacation dreams, but they are not super human. They can’t wave a magic wand and make it all come true. If you want to vacation in Tahiti it will cost a pretty penny, there is no way around that. Your travel agent can; however, find ways to make it a little more affordable.
No vacation is too big or too small for a travel agent. They can help with the details, find hidden gems that you might not have thought of, and be your advocate when things don’t go as planned. When hurricane Matthew hit, thousands of tourists were caught in the turmoil it cased. Flights were delayed or canceled, resorts were closed, and cruise itineraries were adjusted to avoid the worst of the mayhem. If they booked their vacations online, they had to deal with the chaos on their own. Expedia had a 5 hour wait time. How nice it would have been for them to call their travel agent, sit back, and relax.
