The Grand at Moon Palace Resort Review

As travel agents, we take every opportunity to experience as many different travel styles and types as we can. The all-inclusive resort is one that we needed to experience. I know, such a rough job. During a recent trip to Cancun, we took the opportunity to stay at and tour several resorts. One of the resorts that we stayed at was The Grand. The Grand at Moon Palace is one of three resorts at Moon Palace that are situated right on the beach south of Cancun. Now, just because they are located on the beach does not necessarily mean they are all about the beach. In fact, The Grand is such a large sprawling resort that unless you have a room close to the beach, you would never know that it was there.
The Grand is the newest of the three resorts at Moon Palace. That is not necessarily a good thing. The Grounds are beautiful; however, because they are young you don’t have that feeling of lush growth. There are also some technical issues that have yet to be worked out. Though they have Wi-Fi, the service is faulty and comes in and out. We found it to be difficult to get consistent service. If you are on vacation that might not be a big deal. We were there for work and it was a big deal.
The resort has many restaurants and eating options. Everyone tends to spend their time at the main building; which hosts most of the options for dining. We found the buffet to be lacking in variety and quality. The other restaurant options in the main building are quite good but suffer from wait times from large crowds, two of which require advanced reservations. Hidden away at the beach side of the resort are two really wonderful restaurants. The first, the Caribeno, is both a beautiful restaurant but it also serves some wonderful food. While we were there, they had a live pianist. We found this special little touch to be the icing on an otherwise beautiful cake. The second beachfront restaurant is Cusco. This is a Peruvian restaurant. The restaurant is beautiful and has fabulous food in addition to fantastic service. They also offered a live music option this time a Peruvian styled flutist with a guitar accompaniment. Pictured here is the pool next to these wonderful places to eat.
The resort offers service to its other sister resorts. You can walk, take a golf cart ride, or ride bikes available at the bike stand down by the beach to explore the sister resorts. The bikes are on loan for two hours and the shop closes down at 6:00 p.m. This is a great way to get some exercise and see the full expanse of the resorts at Moon Palace.
The Grand boasts a very large water park; however, while we were there they were still working on one section of the park. Though the other section was open for use, the entire park is not yet completed. If you are looking for other water activities there, you will find plenty of pools and places to play in and around the water. The beach is available as well. Not all sections of the resort have easy access to the beach but it is there and it has the beautiful white powdered beaches we expect in Cancun.
