The Caribbean is Open for Business
Published Monday, November 6th 2017We all know that the hurricane season of 2017 was a pretty devastating year. But the amazingly resilient islands of the Caribbean have bounced back in a remarkable way. So, to answer the question, “is the Caribbean open for business?” the answer is a resounding, “Yes!”
It was thought that islands like Key West would be out of business for a couple of months and shocked everyone when they reopened for business 4 weeks earlier than predicted. Many of the other islands are doing the same. San Juan, Puerto Rico is back open for business even while the rest of the island struggles with getting electricity back up and running.
The British Virgin Island’s tourism board just announced that they are back open for Yachting services. Their airport is running and the rest of the islands are working to get their beautiful island back to being lush. The American Virgin Islands are also back up and accepting guests. The cruise ports are back open and ships are returning to the islands before experts thought possible. Even hard hit St. Thomas is back in business.
So, what brought about such a remarkable rebound? The islanders themselves should be credited with most of the unlikely comeback. But they did not go unaided. Most of the major cruise lines used their ships that would have normally carried passengers to the islands to bring aid to the islands. They worked together with the islanders to bring the islands back to working order is a record amount of time. Ships were used to rescue stranded visitors as well as native islanders. The ships brought in much needed supplies and housed workers while repairs were being made. FIMA commandeered one ship and will use it for several months while trying to bring aid to the rest of Puerto Rico. Only 4 ports in the entire Caribbean remain close.
Why should you be one of the first to return to the beautiful Caribbean? The answer is easy. The islanders lost not only their homes, but also their way of making a living. By returning you give them the chance to rebuild their personal lives as quickly as they rebuilt their island’s economy. Take a chance and return to the Caribbean. Share the love!
