Secrets Maroma Beach Review
Published Thursday, November 9th 2017 - Updated Wednesday, March 18th 2020Part of our job as travel agents is to do what the industry calls site inspections. You would call it visiting a resort. In a recent trip to Cancun we had the distinct pleasure of visiting Secrets Maroma Beach. The Secrets Resort at Maroma Beach has beautiful if not stunning grounds. The buildings give an old hacienda feeling to the resort that is appealing and lend to an air of relaxation and restfulness. The resort is usually quiet even though it has a wide variety of activities going on throughout the day. The beach is by far its biggest claim to fame. It boasts the most beautiful beach in all of Mexico, some claim the entire world but that feels like taking things a little too far. Until I get to visit every beach in the world, I’m not going to substantiate the claim.
The resort rooms are undergoing refreshment. Some people prefer the older interiors with the dark woods and more traditional Mexican style. I, on the other hand find the refreshed rooms more to my liking. They simplified the decor making it more sleek and clean. The wood has been lightened and the lines of the rooms are more simplistic giving the feel of a lighter, brighter, and roomier accommodation. They do not feel cold or plain. The rooms are lush and luxurious in feel and have an overall more relaxing atmosphere.
The resort is laid out in a large U with all of the activities and pools located inside. With this configuration all rooms have an ocean view as well as a view of the pool and grounds. The first floor accommodations boast swim up suites. Each building has its own concierge who learns your name the day they escort you to your room and never forgets it. There is one main building that houses all of the restaurant and eating options as well as the spa, gym, coffee shop, and bars (with the exception of the poolside and beach options).
The restaurant options at this resort are all good. The buffet is open for breakfast and offers a wide variety of foods. Most buffets have a make to order omelet station but this one offers a make to order crepe station, too! I frankly have never seen that so of course I had to try it. I had a wonderful fresh cut strawberry crepe for breakfast. It was fabulous. I also got to have my favorite eggs. I love poached eggs and you just can’t always get that in a buffet. Well, this one will make your eggs any way you want them while you wait. I was in heaven. Just saying, sometimes it’s the little things.
The beach at Secrets Maroma Beach is beautiful with a wide strip of beautiful white powder sand. The water is warm and refreshing and they have buoys to mark where it is safe to swim. The seaweed is still a little bit of a problem but not annoyingly so. There are options for other water activities here as well. If you want to be near the ocean but not necessarily the sun, they have cabanas with mattresses that can be rented for the day. They also have plenty of lounge chairs and cabanas for shade if you don’t feel up to reserving the other.
