Scenic Cruising on the Danube River

Part of the fun of a River Cruise is being able to sit on deck and just watch all of the beautiful scenery go by.  This was one of our favorite days.  We were so thankful that we did not take the optional tour available on this day, we would have missed some of the best sights.  It seemed like every other mountain top (we would call them hills here in Boise) there seemed to be a fortress or ruin of some kind.  Truly a magical day.  Here are some of our favorite photos from the day on the river.

 

This ruin is located close to the water.  What you can't see is the fortress that is on top of the hill.  This seems like it was once the gate or entrance to the fortress on the hill.  The hilltop fortress appears to be in good repair unlike its humble counterpart down by the river.

 

 

I loved the riverside manor house!  Can you imagine how many generations have lived and died in the beautiful old manor?  Would love to stop and talk to the occupants!

 

 

This is another of those hilltop fortresses that dot the hills on the stretch of the Danube River.  I would love to know the story of each and every one of them!

Perched on a rocky outcropping over looking the Danube River, this building won my heart.  I don't know if it is a manor house, or a fortress, but I love it.  There seems to be no way to get to it but it surely has its secrets.
