Private Tour - Santorini

We were traveling with friends when we arrived in Santorini and had secured a private tour before arrival.  I highly recommend this option if you are traveling with several people and want to see all that Santorini has to offer and you don’t have more than a day to do so.

 

We arrived by cable car and since we knew the lines could be long, we added extra time and arrived at the meeting spot early.  To our delight, someone from the tour was standing there waiting for us, even though we were early.  Our driver/guide was not far behind.  We had plenty of time to take pictures from some really nice lookout points near the cable cars while we waited for our group to gather and our driver to arrive.

 

Here is the biggest advantage of arranging a private tour, we got to see what was important to us and we got to spend as much time as we wanted to do it.  Our guide was more than happy to tailor the tour to what we wanted to do and knew how to get us to where we wanted to go all while avoiding the major crowds and large tour groups.  We had some locations completely to ourselves.  Our guide helped us to stay on track with time and even took us to a great local spot for lunch (not included in the price of the tour but well worth the extra money).  He introduced us to things we didn’t even know where on the island and would have missed completely.

 

So what did we get to see?  Fira, Oia, Megalochori (small town with cave houses), multiple vineyards (they are much different here than other places due to the wind), the lighthouse, Red Beach, Black Beach, and the Monastery.  We covered the entire island from north to south and east to west all within the time we needed.  Small group tours are cost-effective and can often be tailored to your needs.
