Havre-Saint-Pierre, Quebec, Canada

This beautiful and remote town is surrounded by a an archipelago of islands that have some of the most interesting limestone formations.  Worn down by centuries of wind and water these rock formations are stunning and hold some incredible fossils within them.  I was unable to get a picture that truly shows their uniqueness and I know you can find better than this one, but this will give you a general idea of the landscape.

Even though this area is quite remote and really only recently reachable by road, they have a strong history and culture.  Dog sleds were a common form of transportation here until snowmobiles became accessible.  That didn't stop them from building a beautiful church or discovering Canada's largest titanium deposit.  You can visit the museum but one thing to keep in mind, this is part of Quebec and French is the language.  The museum is interesting and informative.  Everything is in French; however, they will give you a guide book of the museum that is in English.

Like most of the places we visited on the expedition cruise with Hurtigruten, fishing is a large part of the culture.  I found it interesting that they still had snow in the marina.  This picture was taken in early May.
