Get Off Your Resort
Published Monday, April 17th 2017All-inclusive resorts are, well, all-inclusive. That’s why we love them. When you really need to recharge your batteries and just relax they are perfect. They also have a wide variety of activities in which you can participate. But what do you do once your batteries have recharged? Here are some great reasons to get out of the resort.
Change your perspective. Getting off the resort and into the local area can really give you a chance to see how the locals live. If you have your family with you getting off the resort helps them to see that life isn’t all sunshine and sandy beaches. I liken it to counting your blessings. Sometimes taking inventory and seeing how others live makes the experience sweeter.
Take in the sights. You might be on the most beautiful beach on the island but what about that cliff face on the other side? Take a boat excursion out onto the water. See the island from the water. Take a hike through the jungle to that really cool waterfall. Or maybe you need to go see that dormant volcano and hike around the caldera. Maybe kayaking through the mangroves is what you’ve been longing to do. Get off the resort and take it all in. You might not make it back to this particular island/country.
Eat like a local. You can learn a great deal about culture but sometimes you just need to experience it first hand. Getting off the resort and experiencing local cuisine can be a lot of fun. Sometimes the resorts will offer local food tours. Don’t be afraid to ask and get suggestions for places to eat off the resort.
Sometimes it’s the unplanned spur of the moment experiences that end up taking our breath away. It’s those experiences that end up recharging our batteries in ways we didn’t realize.
