Florence is the birthplace of the Renaissance and as such has so much to offer.  If that is not enough to draw you to Florence, then the fact that is the center of Tuscany should be the icing on the cake for you.

Florence, Italy, Luxury Travel, Luxury TourThe Duomo is the most significant building in the city.  It rises above the city like a crown jewel.  The red tile dome attracts your attention from miles away.  Besides being an eye-catching topper, it is an architectural wonder.  When asked to design another dome for a different building, Michael Angelo is quoted as saying that he could not outdo the dome of the Duomo.

Florence, Italy, Luxury Travel, Luxury TourThe defensive walls that once surrounded the city of Florence, have been taken down and a highway has been built in its place.  Though the highway helps ease some of the traffic around Florence, it diminishes the old town feel of the city.  The old town section has very few pedestrians-only streets and getting around can be a bit tricky, it is still a beautiful city with much to offer.  Art lovers will relish all of the history from the Renaissance.  So many of the masters spent time here or contributed to the rich culture here.

Florence, Italy, Luxury Travel, Luxury TourThe old bridge, though destroyed during a flood, has been rebuilt in its former glory.  I love the shops that still reside there on the bridge.  The upper story is said to have been a private passage used by the Medici when they were in their height of power.  The views from the bridge are amazing as well.  The river Arno; which, always seems to be placid and calm reflects the beautiful bridges and buildings that adorn its banks.  Unlike earlier days, the shops on the bridge are now mostly jewelry shop.  They are amazing with lots of beautiful and glittery wares to sell!  They tempted me several times.

Florence, Italy, Luxury Travel, Luxury TourWhile in Florence, it would be a crime to not take some time in the surrounding countryside.  Olive groves abound as well as vineyards.  The villas and homes that are already built are all that will ever be in the area.  They are protected and must be painted certain colors to keep the look and feel of the area.  We had the joy of taking a Vespa Tour through the countryside that included lunch at one of the farmhouses along the way.  Truly beautiful countryside with fun windy backroads, old villas and farmhouses, and little hamlets full of charm and character.
