Departing out of New York is quite spectacular.  We have taken the Staten Island Ferry before, but somehow, setting of on an adventure from New York has a different feel.  The skyline, which seems to be constantly changing is stunning, and sailing past some of the historical sites, like Ellis Island, can be breathtaking.  One of the most awe inspiring moments was cruising past the Statue Of Liberty.  It was a cold and rainy day when we departed but it didn't dampen the enjoyment of the moment.  There is just something magical about setting off on an adventure from the city that never sleeps.  The possibilities seem endless and the world seems to be laying open at your feet.

 

We were starting an expedition cruise from New York on a Hurtigruten ship.  The pleasure of departing out of New York, was well worth the added cost of spending some time here.  We have put together just a few of our favorite sights that we were able to see once we were on the ship and underway.

 

The Ever Changing Skyline of New York

 

Here you can see how many buildings are changing the skyline.  It felt like the city was remaking itself.  

 

Ellis Island 

During previous visits to New York, we had not been able to get to Ellis Island, so sailing past was really fun and it was an interesting perspective.  So many immigrants passed through these buildings.  So much history there.

 

 

The Statue of Liberty

Sailing past Lady Liberty was just magnificent.  I think I took about 50 pictures just because it was so incredible.  The rain kept some of the full details from being captured but it was worth standing in the rain.  The Statue Of Liberty is well worth any inconvenience to sail there and visit.  If it is not already on your list of things to see, be sure to add it!  It might be a "touristy" thing to do but don't let that stop you from taking in her full beauty.

 

 

At least the weather cooperated at the end of the day.  Sunsets are just so beautiful at sea!
