El Dorado Royale
Published Friday, December 8th 2017 - Updated Wednesday, March 18th 2020On a recent trip to Cancun, Mexico, we had the opportunity to tour the El Dorado Royale. One of the fun perks and responsibilities of a travel agent is to tour and understand the differences between the variety of resorts available for clients. It’s a tough job, but someone has to do it, right? The El Dorado Royale is a large and sprawling resort. It is extremely beautiful and well designed. I especially love that the swim up suites actually lead somewhere. You can, in the right location, step out into your swim up pool and swim your way to a swim up bar and back again. Never having to leave the comfort of the water. I kind of like this. Not sure how safe it is to drink and swim but I like the concept.
I was not entirely impressed by the beach. For those looking for a beach resort and wanting to spend all of their time in the ocean or on the beach, this may not be the resort for you. They do have a fun saline pool located on the beach that makes it feel like you are in the ocean. It is surrounded by natural rock and sand lending to the feel of being in the ocean. The waves are crashing nearby lending even more to the feel of being in the ocean. For those people who don’t like swimming with the fishes but enjoy the salt water, this is a great compromise.
I have nothing against large resorts but I tend to hesitate to recommend one that has cart stops, much like bus stops, with clocks that tell you when the next cart will be by in order to get you to your destination. That is a really large resort. The El Dorado Royale has such cart stops and they are needed. The beach is not the emphasis at this resort so there are numerous pools and activities scattered around. The carts are great for getting from one activity to another, but I like a more intimate feel. I don’t mind walking, I enjoy it enough that I tend to take every opportunity to walk that I can. I think I could easily reach my 10,000 step goal each day at this resort.
