If you have never been on a cruise, the hardest part is figuring out which cruise line you should try.  Each cruise line has its own personality and finding the one that fits you can be daunting.  Finding the perfect cruise starts with finding the perfect cruise line.  Here are our top cruise line style leaders with a brief description of its personality and who would enjoy them.

Carnival Cruise line:  Carnival is kind of the everyman’s cruise line that is budget friendly.  Packed with lots of things to do on board the ships are designed for travelers who want a lot of bang for their buck.  The ships are generally large and can have a bit of a party feel.

Regent Seven Seas:  Regent is the largest of the luxury brands and has a very inclusive program.  With the vast majority of its staterooms having balconies, it caters to those wanting a touch of luxury in their lives.  The ships tend to be large enough to provide the amenities of the mass market brands with the class of the luxury brands.  No getting bored on these ships.

Royal Caribbean:  Royal Caribbean is the best cruise line for families with teens and tweens.  These ships are packed with activities to burn the energy of this fun-loving age group.  Built with the multi-generation travelers in mind these cruise line has all the action with all the amenities expected on a cruise line.  Great food, good entertainment, and a seemingly bottomless array of activities for all.

Disney Cruise Line:  If you are cruising with younger children Disney is the cruise line for you.  Not only does Disney provide themed public areas but their famous characters are on board as well.  Disney is the only cruise line that has child care services for the infant to 3-year-old travelers.  They also have diaper friendly pool areas.  That is pretty hard to find on a cruise line.  They are a bit on the higher end of prices but if you want a true family vacation, Disney Cruise Line can serve one up.  By the way, you don’t have to be a child to love Disney.  I know cruisers who only travel on Disney and they are adults!

Silversea Cruise Line:  This cruise line is aptly named since it caters to the mature traveler.  It is rare to find a child on board and its all-inclusive pricing includes normal fees like transfers, gratuities, alcohol, and excursions are all included in the upfront pricing.  No added expenses to be found on board these ships.

Holland America:  Oddly enough Holland America has a wonderful singles program.  I was actually surprised by this since it is a wonderful premium cruise line with lots of educational opportunities on board.  But Holland America has special programs that will match single travelers up with other single travelers (bunkmates so to speak) and if they can’t find you a bunkmate, you don’t have to pay the single supplement.  They also host a singles cocktail evening to help other singles find each other.  They have other single activities on board during the cruise as well.  If you are single and like to cruise you should check it out.

Oceania Cruises:  Are you in love with all things food?  Oceania is the cruise line for you.  Not only do they have a wonderful inclusive pricing program but they have some of the best food on the seas.  The price might be more than the typical mass market cruise but so much is included that it works out to be a pretty sweet deal.  And then there is the food.  If you are a foodie, you need the “O-life”.

Norwegian Cruise Line:  If entertainment is king with you then you need to become a Viking!  Norwegian Cruise line really shines in the entertainment department, especially with its newest ships.  They have brought many of the Broadway-styled shows onto their ships and let them shine.  All of their ships have a wide variety of show in the lounges for guest to enjoy but the theatre is a must see.

Cunard Cruise Line:  Cunard really steps up the game when it comes to enrichment.  Not a huge surprise since it is the sister company to Princess who also really shines brightly in the enrichment area.  If gaining knowledge, understanding, and perspective are part of your travel plans then you need to seek out Cunard.  This is one of the reasons I love to travel.

Lindblad Expeditions:  Lindblad is the leader in adventure cruising.  They seek out the exotic and adventurous off the beaten path itineraries.  If locations like the Arctic, Antarctic, and the Galapagos are on your bucket list, Lindblad has you covered.  The take cruising and adventure very seriously.

Paul Gauguin Cruises:  Paul Gauguin is the best of the best when it comes to romance and the romantic at heart.  They have perfected the honeymoon/anniversary cruise to an art form.  Most staterooms have ocean views and they are the leader in French Polynesia and the South Pacific for special occasion cruises.  Almost everything about their ships is designed around couples.  Need I say more?

If ocean cruising is not your cup of tea, you should really check out river cruising.  The river cruise experience is much different and more intimate than the ocean cruise.  In the future, I will write another blog just about the personalities of the various river cruise lines.  They are as varied as the ocean cruise lines.
