Como and its namesake lake are truly remarkable and a delight to behold.  We traveled to this region during the early autumn and found it stunning.  We stayed at a delightful boutique hotel that was only a couple of blocks from Lake Como and was just steps away from the magical old town section.

Como, Lake Como, Italy, Luxury Travel, Luxury TourWalking through the old town is always fun and fascinating to me.  I love the meandering streets and narrow alleyways that always seem to have a surprise just around the bend.  If you look closely you can find all kinds of funky streets and buildings.  There are archways that lead to courtyards where people still live.  It was really nice to be there when it wasn't clog with tourists...even though we were tourists.  Many of the folks we ran into were locals who were just going about their daily lives.  It was just a wonderful experience.

Como, Lake Como, Italy, Luxury Travel, Luxury TourCruising the Lake Como can take a full day and is well worth the time.  We took the ferry from Como to Bellagio and it was a good two hours one way.  There seemed to be an unlimited number of small lakeside villages, countless villas, and stunning mountain views to be had all along the way.  The ferry does make frequent stops but as long as you are not in a hurry, it doesn’t really matter.  Just more time to enjoy the sights.

Como, Lake Como, Luxury Travel, Luxury TourOnce in Bellagio, there isn’t a lot to do but be sure to take the path down to the Point.  From there you will be able to take in some beautiful sights and get in some pretty pictures as well.  We enjoyed watching the water taxis and the water planes come and go.  Bellagio is a really great place to sit back and relax.  We enjoyed sitting on some benches along the lakeshore walkway and basked in the sunshine and warm breeze.  We found a fantastic gelato shop that has us comparing all other gelato shops to them.  And of course, we had to try several different gelato shops!

As in most things in life, the way back to Como seemed to go so much faster.  We managed to arrive back in Como just in time to again, sit on a bench and this time watch the sunset.  It was a beautiful day spent enjoying nature, history, and the lake.  The sunset was just the cherry on top.
