Cinque Terre - Recommendations and Review
Published Wednesday, January 23rd 2019 - Updated Friday, March 27th 2020Cinque Terre is a series of five fishing villages that seem to cling to the slopes of the mountains before the slide into the ocean. Besides being stunningly beautiful, they are unique and fascinating to visit. They are now a UNESCO World Heritage Site and I can only imagine what it must be like to live in these villages. They are well worth a visit.
We went to Cinque Terre as a side trip from Florence. There are other ways of doing it but we had an extra day in Florence and decided it was worth the trek to see Cinque Terre. It was a long day that started before dawn and ended late in the evening but it was worth every minute.
We arrived by motor coach at Manarola. The walk down the slope into the village was easy and gave no hint of what you were about to experience. If you have seen many pictures from Cinque Terre they are most likely from Manarola. Its small bay is quite picturesque and the village is just beautiful. The view from the church square over the village is a wonderful introduction to the villages known as Cinque Terre.
You can hike between the five villages and if you are fit and like climbing it is the best way to see them; however, you can also take the train. The train passes through tunnels and connects the villages for easy passage from one to the other. If that doesn’t work for you, there is also a ferry that you can take. Just for fun, we took the train and the ferry. I highly recommend this options since the train gets you from village to village in record time but the ferry gives you a unique perspective of the villages and some stunning photos.
If you are planning a trip to Italy and you are anywhere close to Cinque Terre, I highly recommend a visit to these beautiful villages. Better yet, contact us, your Cinque Terre and Italy experts! We can assist you in making your visit to Italy and Cinque Terre your dream come true.
