Bike Ride in Linz
Published Sunday, July 23rd 2017 - Updated Wednesday, July 10th 2019Linz is the third largest city in Austria and has been an important city from the start. First founded by the Romans, Linz has been part of vital trade routes and its location on the Danube River made it accessible by both land and water. To be very honest, we did not spend a great deal of time here. The quaint and beautiful old town is located just off the river and has the usual old buildings and churches.
We took the opportunity in Linz to ride bikes along the Danube River. There is a beautiful bike route the runs along the Danube River and passes not just through Linz but all the way to Vienna. If you are not familiar with the geography of this area the Danube River runs through the famous Wachau Valley. The Wachau Valley is known for its terraced vineyards that run up and down the Wachau Valley.
The section of the bike trail that we rode on was directly on the water and ran through a park. It is definitely an easy ride and we had the opportunity to talk to other bikers who were going through the Wachau Valley to Krems. The path is well maintained and if you are interested in biking in Europe, this is an excellent opportunity to get to see the countryside up close and personal. You can plan an entire trip around biking in Austria and along the Danube River.
