Aruba, One Happy Island!

There is a reason why Aruba is called “One Happy Island”!  Well, to be truthful, there are many reasons it has earned this moniker.  Located just off the coast of Venezuela, Aruba is ideally located for warm sunny weather year round.  Unlike most Caribbean islands, Aruba is located south of hurricane alley which runs through the Caribbean Sea.  This Dutch island is part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and along with Curacao and Bonaire form the chain of islands known as the ABC islands.

 

Aruba is known for its beautiful white sandy beaches and the most beautifully blue water I have ever seen.  Because of its location out of hurricane alley, Aruba actually has a dry climate.  Strewn around the island are a variety of cacti that give it a desert feel.  With the trade winds bringing in a constant breeze, the Divi-Divi trees grow at a slant.  Don’t be fooled by those cacti, the humidity can be quite high depending on current weather conditions.  

Compared to many Caribbean islands, Aruba is a safe and friendly place to visit.  It has had a couple very well publicized unfortunate incidences, but in reality is quite safe.  For this reason most of the resorts are not all-inclusive in nature.  The true Aruba experience is to visit the entire island.  It is a “foodies” paradise!  If you are dead set on an all-inclusive resort, there are a few with a wide range of budgets to match your needs. 

Aruba has formed an entire industry around one of its most well-known plants, the Aloe Vera plant.  While there, be sure to see the factory and try some of the products produced by these amazingly versatile plants.  There are more uses than you might imagine.
