We have been to Amsterdam before; however, I don’t think you can ever get tired of this city.  There is so much to see and a never-ending supply of things to do.  This time our stay in Amsterdam was much too short, but if you are looking for recommendations of things to do in Amsterdam, I have a few for you to consider.

Canal Tour

Amsterdam, Netherlands, River Cruise, Luxury Cruise LineFirst, you simply must take a canal tour.  I know, it is extremely touristy, but such a wonderful way to see the old town.  Between the boathouses and the beautiful buildings, the canals offer a wonderful overview of the city, its architecture, and history.  I have taken the canal tour twice and I learned something new each time.  Simply a must in Amsterdam.

Walking Tour

Amsterdam, Netherlands, River Cruise, Luxury CruiseSecond, walk around the old town and get a feel for the streets and canals.  Many, but not all streets are for pedestrians and bikes pretty much rule the world.  You do have to exercise caution and keep an eye on the bike riders, they do tend to run you over, but exploring on foot gives you a great view of the shops, homes, and lives of those living in Amsterdam.  I love finding little alleyways to wander through.  You just never know what you are going to find.

Anne Frank House

Amsterdam, Netherlands, River Cruise, Luxury Cruise Line, Luxury TourThird, a visit to the Anne Frank house is also on my list of recommendations.  This home still stands and allows you to see where they lived, the hidden door to their living quarters, and gives you a small taste of what it must have been like.  I can only imagine the fear and stress they lived under on a daily basis.

Museum Square

Fourth, you must see the museums.  Museum square, besides housing two museums, also has some wonderful gardens, shops, and a wonderful place to stroll and enjoy the outdoors.  They have a fun and entertaining sign that is perfect for the inevitable selfie and expresses the wonder that is Amsterdam all at the same time.  Pick your favorite letter to climb on, peek through, or stand in front of and get the selfie taken!

Tulips and Windmills

Amsterdam, Netherlands, River Cruise, Luxury Tour, Luxury Cruise LineIf you happen to be lucky enough to get to Amsterdam in the spring, you really need to take an excursion outside the city and visit the tulip fields.  It is a wonder to behold.  If you are a flower lover, many of the places where you can see the tulips, also have bulbs for sale.  I bought some a few years ago and they traveled well and I was able to plant them in the fall.

Red Light District

Last but not least, you should take a stroll through the red-light district.  I would never endorse taking children; however, walking through the red-light district is nothing if not entertaining.  You never know what you are going to see in a window or wandering out a door.
