The Amalfi Coast of Italy
Published Thursday, March 26th 2020Amalfi Coast. If you have never heard of the Amalfi Coast, it is a section of the Italian coastline below Naples that extends from Sorrento down past the town of Amalfi to Vietri sul Mare where it ends. This section of Italy is much like Cinque Terre. If you haven’t heard of Cinque Terre, read our blog out it here.
The Amalfi Coast consists of a collection of beautiful pastel-colored fishing villages, stunning cliffs, and smaller sunny beaches. You can reach all of these villages along a section of highway that hugs the coastline often leaving you with the feeling that you could just fall off! The road is windy and narrow making driving a bit precarious. The views are nothing short of spectacular and the villages are picturesque. There are often cars parked along the side of the road making driving more difficult.
We drove a section of this highway on a private tour. We were traveling with friends and decided it would be fun to be able to take in the delights of the Amalfi Coast without the hassle of having to find our way. We had the expertise of a driver-guide to teach us about the area, stop at the best lookout spots, and guide us to the best places for pictures, snacks, and shopping. We had plenty of time to explore and take in all of the beauty that is the Amalfi Coast.
If you want to do more than just drive through as we did, you may want to consider staying in one of the small villages along the coast. If you do decide to stay for a few days, be prepared to pay and climb. These beautiful towns are all situated vertically on the mountainsides and everything is either up or down. The higher you go up the mountain, the lower the price of a room, generally speaking. The views are stunning and well worth it but it can get expensive.
