Passau was one of my favorite spots on this tour through the Danube River Valley.  The river cruise was a lot of fun and Passau won my heart.  This city is built where three rivers join together almost surrounding the old town with water.  Walking through this old town is pure joy.  Below are a few of our favorite photos from out visit.

 

Passau a City of Three Rivers:  I fell in love with this old tower and the walkway that runs along the river.  Each river in Passau has a different color because they pass through different lands and collect different minerals and nutrients.  After several fired destroyed the old town, it was rebuilt in the Baroque style; which, is how you see it today.  There are a couple of alleys that are still medieval.  Definitely take a tour and find the hidden gems in this beautiful city.

 

 

All along the river banks there are beautiful sights to see.  It's hard to find a favorite.  They are all so charming and beautiful.

 

 

Departing Passau by river gives you a chance to look back and see the different rivers combine.  For a short time they retain their distinct colors, before blending together.  I love this view of Passau!

 

 

Surrounded by History:  This fortress overlooking the Danube River has been around for a long time.  I love the fortress's protective walls.  They hug the hilltop and cascade down the slopes.  Can you read the date on the fortress?  Hint the second number is half of an eight.  Does that help you read it?

 

 

Built to Last:  Being surrounded by water makes flooding a certainty.  Take a look at the high water marks on the town hall.  Hard to imagine water that high and the building is still standing!
